Staying in the Palm Bungalows on Hamilton Island is a real treat

Staying in the Palm Bungalows on Hamilton Island is a real treat. We had a comfortable room with cooking facilities, a hammock on the covered veranda and wallabies grazing nearby! Breakfast at nearby Sails hotel was delicious and right beside the beach. We would definitely recommend taking the day tour to Whitehaven beach to see the dazzling pure white beach and swirling emerald waters from the Lookout at One Tree Hill. Just perfect.

Unfortunately not the right choice for us

The Palm Bungalows are generally a nice and spacious alternative to a classic hotel room. The bungalows themselves are attractively designed and offer significantly more space than an ordinary room.
What we didn't know when booking, however, is that the Palm Bungalows belong to the Reef View Hotel and share all facilities with its guests. The Reef View Hotel has more than 300 rooms, plus around 50 bungalows – there are a correspondingly large number of guests moving around the property. Anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing stay is therefore probably not in the right place here.
In addition, we found our bungalow to be quite dark, as very little sunlight gets in. In the Australian summer, this is certainly pleasant given the high temperatures, but in winter it was rather cool on the shaded terrace. Our bungalow (No. 46) also already seemed a bit dated. Especially the bathroom and the toilet could have been cleaned more thoroughly in our view. We also found it a shame that the patio door does not have an insect screen. As a result, it always had to remain closed, even though we would have liked to let in some fresh air.
After one night, we therefore decided to move to a quieter hotel. Looking back, I would not book the Palm Bungalows again.
However, I would like to particularly highlight the reception team. All employees were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and always eager to find a suitable solution for every request. This service deserves great praise.

The room was clean and comfortable but I think a round dining table would have been a better arrangement than the sofa lounge next to the TV.
Glass sliding doors were not clean. Everything else was very good.

Bungalows are quiet and private. Shower was excellent. Pool and beach were top rate. Staff was lackluster. Buggies are too expensive. Public shuttle was great but the stops are poorly designed for convenience. Cuca Chu restaurant was very good; make a reservation.

Bugs on the wall and woke up in bed with a bug on my foot along with one coming out of the shower first day - felt like the bungalow hadn’t been used for a while - after the first night no issues
