don't use their restaurant - it's a rip off

We had lunch with friends at this place mid-August. When we received the bill we were definitely surprised as they had included things that we had assumed were part of our meal. When a waitress asks - would you like french fries or salad - you would assume they were part of the dish. Also the waitress place some pretzels on the table - again not mentioning that we had to pay for them - and last but not least the mineral water cost more than the beer!!!! There are many other places to go - just don't go here.

Big Room with City View

This is a very old hotel. It looked dirty when entering from the restaurant, but the room was big and clean. Maybe because it is old, the bathroom was in good size but had very bad smell. There was in room tea and coffee and a water boiler. However without knowing if the tap water was safe to drink or not, we did not make tea or coffee in the room. There was no reception available but you could go to the bar for information.

Restaurant review only. Lunch - good food and pleasant service.

This hotel has a restaurant attached to it that has a large dining area on the main square in Lienz. It was very relaxing sitting under the umbrellas in the square looking at the beautiful buildings and the surrounding hills.
It was just after 3.00pm and we had just completed the bike ride from San Candido and were quite hungry, thirsty and tired. We made for the main square as we knew there were a number of restaurants there. At the first they just ignored us and went on putting cutlery etc out no doubt for the evening. At the second - no luck. Looked at us as if we had two heads and said the kitchen was closed. At the third, Altstadthotel, great friendly welcome. Absolutely they could provide us with some lunch and something to drink, please take a seat at one of their tables.
Service was good and food and drink arrived without delay. We had a schnitzel and chips and a salad and chips. Nothing fancy but the food was very tasty, the beer refreshing, and all at a reasonable price.

Arrogance in cafe

Imagine that you go for a coffee and something to drink. You order a famous Austrian specialty coffee Melange. Waiter brings you a cappucino. Tell her that you ordered coffee Melange. She tells you: among them is a cappuccino the same as melange. Answer them /two waiters/ : it's not the same, it's different. They call the owner, and she will tell you: a cappuccino and a melange are here the same. And if you don't like it, get out.

Good burgers

This is a good place to visit for a burger. Friendly service, good burgers (large selection, even burger for desert!) and a nice outside sitting area. Also large selection of beers, wine and several types of coffee. Good for lunch, dinner or just some drinks.
