Cutting corners
First thing we noticed was the new chandelier, the previous one made the entrance very dark, apparently it came from the closed sister hotel the Rodman Hall which is now a drug rehab centre.
If you like Italian cuisine, the restaurant downstairs is a good value. They stopped greeting hotel guests inside, and expect you to walk around through the parking lot and through the main doors. The restaurant wasn't very busy, staff outnumbered the guests inside.
We were placed on the second floor in 201 with the bigger balcony, but this room did not look at all like the photos. There was a smaller kitchenette, no sink and no plates. Only one chair, not two as in the photos. We walked in to a hot room the thermostat was set to 74 (not Celsius measurement) and it took hours to cool down to 70. It was a hot summer day, but not exactly a heatwave so it shouldn't have taken so long to cool down after checking in at 4:30 pm. AC units should be looked at and serviced.
The TV was upgraded to a new Samsung flat screen OLED screen and IPTV, a big change from the older HD flat screen panel and old clunky cable box. The thing about this upgrade is that the remote would not change the volume, and the legacy cable remote that Cogeco had provided in the past was not programmed to change the TV volume with the code for a Samsung TV. I confused the new remote for the electric fireplace.
Besides not being able to adjust the TV volume, the power outlet was covered for the clock radio, so using it meant plugging it in to the bottom outlet which was far from the night stand. The clock radio's display had many dead pixels, and changing the channel we wanted to listen to was next to impossible. Good luck finding an outlet to charge a phone. The tiffany shades on the lamps are pretty, but not practical.
The only good thing in complaining to the front desk was Mike, the night security guard. He tried to fix the problems, but was not outfitted to fix these things. We had a quiet stay and a good sleep, there were no rowdy wedding guests or whatever team or graduation party staying that particular weekend.
It was impossible to step over the high tub in the morning, and the enclosure was slippery. Impossible to shower properly for my husband's mobility issues as the hot tub was for my enjoyment. I like staying here, but my husband doesn't think it is worth the money spent for next time I want a weekend away.
