A hotel with no manager onsite – would never stay here again.
I have travelled all over the world and this is the first time I have ever been compelled to complain about a hotel, but I have had no choice as there was no manager at the hotel to deal with my complaint which I am making on behalf of my two friends and I. We stayed for three nights at the hotel, having booked three separate rooms.
Let me summarise by outlining the key points:
1. Cleanliness; The rooms were spacious and very clean as was the hotel.
2. Breakfast: This was average - there was little fresh fruit and the coffee was cheap, being brewed in one pot. I was taken aback that you have to pay extra for a latte - I have stayed in many hotels all over the world and even the four stars don't charge extra for other coffees. The eggs were cold every day.
3. The staff: I will focus on the two Marijos:
The younger Marijo, Marijo G. was absolutely lovely. The other Marijo was extremely rude and clearly does not like to be bothered with customers for lunch.
4. The spa - this is a highlight on your website. When we went there the first time, there was no staff member so we had to get our own towels. The lady the second time seemed too interested in her mobile phone, and when I mentioned that there was only one female shower, she said I could use the male one. Again, I have never visited a spa where there is only one female shower.
5. The main reason for my complaint is the lunch we were served on our third day. We had lunch the day before where we were served by Marijo G who was very courteous and introduced us to a lovely local sparkling wine. I had the tuna salad which was delicious and my friends had the vegetarian risotto which was also lovely. We were so impressed that we decided to have lunch again the next day, but oh, what a different experience which marred our whole evening.
When we asked the older Marijo if we could sit in the same place as the day before, he asked us aggressively whether this was our first day in the hotel. He clearly was in a hurry to get our order as quickly as possible by asking us abruptly whether we had decided or not? My friend and I wanted to try a local dish which was the 'slow-cooked' beef dish which was pricey at 30 euros. The meat had not been slow cooked and was tough. I was so hungry that I ate it, but my friend did not eat any of the meat and barely touched the polenta. My other friend had an octopus salad which was significantly smaller than the salad that I had had the day before. When we complained about the meat, Marijo was not impressed and brought out the cook who was a nice person and genuinely embarrassed. He has clearly not been trained properly how to slow cook the meat as he mentioned marinating it which is not the same, but he did at least have personal communication skills. Marijo, on the other hand, decided to make some racist comments towards me by saying that in my home country, people don't complain as if that had anything to do with an unsatisfactory meal and also has he travelled extensively to my country. He also started telling my friend in an aggressive manner that she had eaten her meal when she clearly hadn't. In retrospect, we should have taken photos of the meal, but what happened to the motto 'the customer is always right?' Also, two of us had a glass of wine and it was the smallest glass of wine we have ever had compared to the day before. I am not surprised that there is no one having lunch at the hotel.
My friend made the mistake of signing for the meal and when we told the receptionists who were nice that we didn't want to pay for awful customer service, they didn't say anything. We thought there would be a manager on site, but we learnt the next day that there isn't any! Matthew, who is a lovely receptionist, had to ring the owner who was never on site about us not wanting to pay and the owner without talking to us, told him we had to pay.
The trip advisor reviews of 4.5 are clearly not reflected in our poor experience. We emailed the owner before posting this review, but as expected, he did not reply.

Incredible staff and overall very pleasant stay but breakfast disappointing
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Time Boutique Hotel offers a stylish, contemporary base for exploring Split, combining modern comfort with genuinely exceptional hospitality. While a handful of shortcomings prevent it from reaching five-star territory, the hotel’s strengths make it a highly enjoyable place to stay.
The standout feature is undoubtedly the staff. Yosepha and Mario deserve particular recognition for their warm personalities, professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond to assist guests. Their service created a welcoming atmosphere from the outset and left a lasting impression.
The hotel itself is modern, immaculately maintained and well presented. Rooms are thoughtfully designed and feature private balconies, while the spa and swimming pool provide an excellent space to relax after a day exploring the city. The location is another major advantage, sitting within comfortable walking distance of many of Split’s principal attractions without feeling overly busy. Practical touches, such as allowing guests to refill water bottles, are also appreciated.
There are, however, a few compromises. Guest rooms are on the smaller side, and our carpet showed a very small amount of staining, which detracted slightly from the otherwise polished, modern appearance. Although several members of staff were outstanding, service was not entirely consistent, with some employees proving noticeably less helpful than others.
The biggest disappointment was breakfast, which fell well below the standard set by the rest of the hotel. The selection lacked variety and quality, making it one of the weaker aspects of the stay. Additionally, the hotel’s policy of issuing only one room key proved inconvenient, and staff appeared reluctant to provide an additional key when requested, even during an emergency.
Overall, Time Boutique Hotel succeeds thanks to its excellent location, impressive facilities and, above all, its exceptional hospitality from key members of the team. Addressing the breakfast offering and adopting a more flexible approach to room keys would elevate what is already a very enjoyable hotel into an outstanding one.
