very disappointed experience
We had a very disappointing experience at Ocean View Suite and definitely would not recommend this property.
We booked the room on the same day for one night, as we were arriving from Carriacou. Booking stated that check-in was available until 8:00 PM. Unfortunately, our ferry from Carriacou to Grenada experienced an engine problem and was delayed for approximately two hours. This was completely beyond our control and resulted in us arriving around one hour after the stated check-in time.
When we arrived, instead of showing any understanding of the situation, we were asked to pay an additional USD 50 simply for arriving one hour late. We found this amount completely disproportionate, especially considering the circumstances.
What made the situation even worse was that the host told us that the information regarding this USD 50 late check-in fee had already been provided. However, absolutely nowhere in the Booking listing was this additional charge mentioned or disclosed. We were never informed beforehand that arriving after 8:00 PM would result in an additional USD 50 fee. Claiming that this information had been provided when it was not stated anywhere was completely unacceptable. In our view, imposing an undisclosed charge once guests have already arrived and have very few alternatives feels like an abuse of the host’s position.
Unfortunately, the condition of the room did not justify this kind of demand either. The bedsheets had holes in them, the shower mechanism used to turn the water on and off was broken, and the floor was damaged. When guests are charged an additional USD 50 for arriving one hour late, you would at least expect the room to be in impeccable condition.
What bothered us the most was not simply the delay or the extra charge itself, but the complete lack of understanding and consideration shown toward guests when faced with something as unavoidable as a ferry breakdown, combined with a fee that had never been disclosed to us beforehand.
After this experience, we strongly advise against staying at Ocean View Suite. There are plenty of other accommodation options in Grenada where guests can hopefully expect greater transparency, better maintenance, and more respectful treatment.
