Clean, comfortable, affordable
The first floor room was very large and was meant to accommodate 4 people, one for each bed. The decor was not modern, but it's functional and not at all neglected or worn out.
There is an adjacent guest noise problem, however. You share joint custody of any crying babies in the next room. That's because of a door between the two rooms (other rooms might not have this configuration) blocked only by a large clothes closet.
For the car-less traveler, getting to the city center is a bit of a hike. Walk 5 minutes to a bus or light rail and then switch to the underground or other public transportation into the city center. It's not a big deal except when it is raining a lot as was true during a late September visit.
The hosts are super-nice and the shared facilities were spotless.
Remember to obtain cash in the local currency (ask if Euros are okay) to pay for your stay. TripAdvisor articles recommend "Correct Change" outlets for this. Or, if you know for certain what conversion charges and fees are involved, withdraw from an ATM.
[For reasons unknown, I cannot select the rating for "service, value, rooms." The first two get a 5 and the last a 4.]

Great Value
Villa Julia is in a quiet leafy area just 1Km from the Buda side main public transport hub (Kalman) and a bus stop within 50 yds of the property. Just the kind of place I like to stay with a homely Guest House feel - so much better than an impersonal hotel. Facilities for guests included a washing machine. Nearby is a mini-market (Spar) with ATM and a nearby coffee bar. There is a lovely relaxing garden with a comfortable open structure for shelter from rain or sun or somewhere to enjoy your breakfast, and the hosts provide secure off road parking. Should I return to Budapest my first call will be to Villa Julia to arrange another stay. Unbeatable value for such a central location.

Brilliant value, traditional Budapest accommodation
Arrived past the check-in time but emailed the hotel and they were very helpful and there was no problems checking in.
It was a woman who greeted us at the door, never saw the male owner throughout our 2 night stay or any other person for that matter , which wasn't an issue as there was no complaints about the room, bathroom or kitchen area, all very clean and tidy.
On arrival we were asked to fill in a form with our names, address, passport number and time we crossed the border and a number of other questions, maybe the iron curtains not been completely lifted :).
What you get for the price is brilliant value, maybe a little far away from the main parts of Budapest, but buses and trams are only a couple of mins away, plus there is a underground system which isn't as hard to understand as we though it might be. Cost 320 ft around a pound for a 24 hour ticket.
Defiantly recommend having a drink at the Morrisons bar is well known among the locals and taxi drivers, so finding it is not an issue, it cost around 5 pounds for entry which includes 3 free pints of beer!!
If your looking for great value, and helpful staff then it's defiantly worth a stay.

A very satisfied customer.
Villa Julia is a very nice, quite place. At the same time, the location is ecellent.Aldo it is in a quite street, few steps, and you are at the bus, or a sreetcar station, which takes you anyvehere you want to go. The owner, is very very helpful in everyway. The rooms are very clean, and nicely furnished.Not to mention the price, what is far more chiper, then any other privat rooms.you would able to get in Budapest. VERY MUCH RECOMENDED.

WONDERFUL!
Villa Julia is a quite guesthouse just outside to city centre. For those of you looking for a Budapest experience that is on the more relaxing side, and not too expensive, this is the place for you! The owner is one of the nicest men (he showed us around the neighborhood and invited us upstairs for some wine and cheese!) and will without a doubt provide you with everything you need. It has a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and two eating areas (inside and outside). It was everything we were looking for and more! It's a MUST STAY
