Quaint building that used to be the Madras Turkish Consulate in old times
However rooms are very basic, but clean, so all good
The staff are lovely and helpful with anything you need.
Mr Krishna was very attentive to my needs and helped me to sort out getting a sim card, so I couldn't ask for more.

Avoid at All Costs
Everything else was an absolute disaster. The mattresses were old and visibly dirty, the sheets had stains, and the floor looked like it was falling apart. There were zero amenities, and the “bathroom” was an outdoor hut—filthy and disgusting. Mosquitoes were everywhere, making it impossible to sleep, and to top it off, the noise was unbearable. Between the nearby mosque’s early morning calls and the disturbingly thin walls, I could hear everything from neighboring rooms—snoring, conversations, and even people having sex. Privacy is nonexistent.
The staff was equally unpleasant. They insisted on cash payment despite having a fully functional international card reader. After wasting time searching for an ATM (without success), they finally relented and let me pay by card.
Yes, the price was cheap—but there are far better accommodations for the same amount. This was by far one of the worst places I have ever stayed. Never again.

Broad Lands retains it old world charm
The choice room, no 43, has been done up since last we were there, and the improvements are nice, with AC and better security. I suggest avoiding the north wall rooms during mid Oct as the mosque holds a 10 day rant fest that can go on till quite late with their love of vehement rhetoric - one feels like they are about to break down the doors seeking out the unbelievers!
As we have aged, my wife finds the traffic around Triplicane too chaotic, so it was with pleasure that, traveling with another friend, I was able to return to Broad Lands, and I relished it! But I can understand that many young people these days have much higher expectations of what a hotel room should be, than we old India travellers, so if you are one that is used to modern swish and sterile hotels, indeed, Broad Lands may not be for you. Those who love this old Turkish Consul building, know who they are!
