Nice room in the heart of Corniglia
A really adorable room, well decorated and pretty. Lack of light and very noisy heating though. Ideal location in the heart of Corniglia. Price quality ratio still quite high compared to other dwellings. (170th/night off season)

Location, Location, Location
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR ANYONE CARRYING HEAVY SUITCASES. Getting to Il Timone is difficult. 1. Google Earth has the wrong GPS coordinates, and street signs in Corniglia are optional. Our host could only tell us via WhatsApp, her address, and mentioned a church. 2. There are a lot of stairs involved.
Pro Tip: GPS 44.119773 North, by 009.707784 East. or use Google maps. IGNORE THE GOOGLE EARTH location!!!
In English, once your bus or car has dropped you off, look for two markets. Opposite the markets is an alley way. Follow the alley past number 159, until you reach a square with a statue, restaurant tables and umbrellas. Turn LEFT. Follow the two flights of stairs up past the 'church'. At the back of the 'church', turn right and follow a very steep set of stairs up another flight. One more flight of stairs, and you are at number 28.
Our room at number 24, was professionally decorated in a Grotto / cave theme. There is a lot of natural light, but no direct view of the sea from inside the room. You could have coffee on a small balcony overlooking the sea, or climb a few more wide and easy stairs to see an expansive view of the coast.
The TV works, but there are no english channels. Everything else was as advertised.

Beautiful place! - store your luggage
Read the previous review about luggage - it's true!! I wish we had done our homework on that. We were the fools trying to haul our luggage on the shuttle bus and up the stairs. You can store your luggage at the La Spezia train station (as well as others), and just take a small bag for your stay in Corniglia.
We stayed in #28, which is actually a 2 bedroom apartment, but we just used one of the bedrooms for the 2 of us. It was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom is small, but it was fine. We did make sure to plan our schedule to arrive during check-in time, and Cristina was here to meet us at our door. The views here are breathtaking! Our private balcony overlooked the sea. We would definitely return here (without the luggage)!

Poor Customer Service
The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is the location.
My husband and I stayed here for 1 night. The room was clean and pleasant. However, after we returned from dinner we noticed that the door to our room had not locked after we left for the evening. This was concerning because the door to the room opened to a public walkway.
Luckily, nothing was missing but we wanted to lock the door before we went to sleep. When we tried to lock the door we could not get it to lock. We tried to turn the key several different ways. After many tries the door slipped off the hinges. We were concerned because we didn’t want to leave the door open or off the hinge overnight so we texted the contact, Christina, to ask for assistance,as the is no one on site. She responded very rudely that the door was not broken early that day and we must have broken it. She continued to say that it was too late to get anyone to come and fix it.
Finally, we managed to get the door back in place and locked.
The next morning when we tried to leave the door would not unlock. If there had been an emergency or a fire we would have been trapped in the room.
My main complaint is this was a safety issue and the only person that we had as a contact was rude and not at all helpful.
I have read the other reviews for this property which have have been positive, clearly the other guests have not had a problem, which makes them lucky, if they had reached out for assistance the might not feel that the experience of staying at Il timone was a pleasant one.

tres bien
Emplacement idéal .la vue est superbe. La maison est grande et spacieuse les deux premières chambres sont climatisées un balcon au premier étage ou vous pouvez déjeuner et admirer la ville. Une terrasse qui vous permet de prendre le soleil en toute tranquillité. La patronne est très accueillante et très avenante.
