Great palace with very nice terrace and excellent host

We have (despite rain) experienced a wonderful week in this palace-like apartment, to which one gets after admission through a huge portal and a very enchanted staircase. The rooms are huge, very individually equipped, everything works. The views from the windows and from the small roof terrace are breathtakingly beautiful. During the rain breaks we spent many hours on the cozy terrace in front of the apartment, overlooking the very nicely planted square and the small pond where goldfish and water lilies shine for the race. The best thing about the apartment is the host, Mario Zavaglia, who kept coming to inquire about our condition and was always available and very helpful.
Little tip: The palace is not accessible by car. Therefore park a little above in Piazza delle tre chiese.

In short

Driven by good reviews and eye-catching photos on various sites, we booked one night. The building needs renovation and has various rooms; the accommodation given to us was clearly not among those visible online and was not that exciting, especially because of the very questionable bathroom, of which I am attaching photos. The toiletries provided are those visible in the photo. We were disappointed, especially because the owner seemed kind and because we paid 115 euros (not a low amount) for one night without breakfast.

Very hot.

Splendid and magical place. There is no air conditioning; it was very hot. There is no Wi-Fi and breakfast is not included. The gentleman was very helpful.

Gerace: a wonderful stay

We were guests of Mr. Mario in his beautiful palace, wonderfully preserved.
It seems to live in a fairy tale: the historic residence is beautiful, downtown, very quiet.
Despite having booked ourselves a room he made us stay in Sun belonging to the palace.
There is also a very nice and romantic inner garden.
Mr... Mario was also very kind in booking us a non-tourist restaurant that does extraordinarily good local cuisine.

Expectations disappointed

Historic building in the center of Gerace. However, it suffers from sloppy management. Behind the respect for authenticity hides a very poor care for things and the excuse not to face due extraordinary maintenance aimed at making your stay enjoyable.
The rooms are large and furnished with furniture that I would say antique but it would be more accurate to call them old. No maintenance and no care. The bathrooms, probably built in the 70s-80s, are full of cleaning tools. The underwear smells like mothballs. Such a facility could fly, but I'm afraid guest disappointment is frequent. The boastful "breakfast included" consists in the possibility of having a coffee in the kitchen available also this crowded with objects of little use. Owner asks for positive reviews, I fear in the awareness of offering very little. Finally, the fan, the only possibility of relief from the summer heat, also vintage, is also very noisy so that you have to choose to sleep in a pool of sweat rather than stay awake to listen to the ticking.... I would never stay there again and would highly recommend an awareness and a small investment that would make your stay more enjoyable.
