Comfortable, friendly
PROs:
- decent price for the area; Cuernavaca is a little pricey
- extensive lush gardens for a smaller establishment
- starfruit and mango tree - guests are encouraged to pluck the fruits from the trees and enjoy them
- lush trees cover the patio furniture, palms and flowers surround the pool, the large parking lot in the back is shaded by trees, a fairly large lawn area for play or BBQing is surrounded by, and partially covered by trees
- rooms have A/C. (Cuernavacas is somewhat humid and warm during the day. It cools off with a breeze at night, but A/C is nice during the day or interim period before sleep)
-good maid service - clean room, friendly maid, floor was mopped daily
- mini fridge in room
- each room has a decent-sized patio in front with a glass table and two chairs
-half of the rooms are single-level (no rooms above)
-small, pretty pool that was popular round-the-clock with a family or couple
-friendly owner, night staff
- secure, gated complex- both front and back gates were locked at night and monitored by a doorbell and camera system
-safe area; I walked around by myself during the day without any problems, quiet neighborhood at night
-located between the zocalo and downtown centro - many services and street food vendors within walking distance, zocalo/ tourist area and most restaurants are a short cab ride away (5 min, 35-40 pesos/ $3, although u can hop any number of buses/colectivos for about 5 pesos), local bus station is about 5 blocks away, Estrella/Pullman stations are a short cab ride
-two blocks from Parque Chapultec - a large, gorgeous city park with lush grounds, little waterfalls, elevated path, small zoo, and man-made lake. $1 entrance fee
- friendly guests, quiet atmosphere
- hot water in shower, decent water pressure
-typical breakfast included (sweetbread and coffee); guests can order a bigger breakfast from the on-site restaurant - decent prices and food
-later breakfast hours - 8am to 11ish
-two parking lots, always plenty of parking
CONS:
- Wi-Fi did not connect from my room, I had to sit in the lobby (strong signal there), other guests could connect, but it was weak/spotty
- the lush grounds = many aggressive mosquitos, although I found that I could not escape their merciless attacks anywhere in the city - with or without my Super Strength Mosquito Repellent from Thailand. Yikes! After 3 days, I looked like a 1950's Throwback with the mumps.
- the bathroom had a slight moldy smell most likely due to the fact that guests kept the bathroom door closed to prevent mosquitos from entering the bedroom (there's a small, open vent without a screen in the bathroom)
- small, basic room
- room was a little dark, despite the large window in front
Pro/Con:
+ long pool hours (great when I wanted to swim)
- long pool hours (not so great when Newly Arrived Family with excited kids went swimming at midnight, or Drunk, Giggly Couple was swimming/drinking at 5am)
* Generally, this was a quiet atmosphere. It is NOT a "party hotel" .
To sum up, if hotel perks are not important to you, and a serene garden environment is, then you will enjoy it here.
Happy travels!
