Enchanted River

Camp on the river where one is received by the very welcoming and friendly owner. The camp has 6 well-appointed tents in which one is lulled by the sounds of the surrounding nature. The shared bathrooms are impeccable. Nice friendly bar. Special mention for the "honey moon tent" and for the dog of the house: Scolly.

Hogo Camp is a truly special spot right on the banks of the Okavango.
The campsite offers spacious tents and camping spots, along with generous showers and clean ablution blocks that make it easy to feel comfortable in the wild.
The location couldn’t be more authentic — it’s pure Namibian nature at its best, complete with the occasional nightly visit from a hippo!
The owners are exceptionally friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming, adding to the camp’s relaxed and personal atmosphere.
Sundowners with an Ice Cold Beer at the bar and the Dinner is another highlight, with perfectly grilled steaks that round off the day in the best way possible.
If you appreciate old-style Namibian camping with a touch of charm and adventure, Hogo Camp is a 100% must-stop destination

Spontaneous accommodation

We booked the camping spontaneously on our trip. A totally simple camping with a view of the river over to Angola (right on the border) The infrastructure, i.e. sanitary facilities etc. definitely have room for improvement upwards. The owners are totally friendly for this and crocodile milk snaps are also served to you (hahaha wink) For one night totally ok and we can also recommend.

Nice, not great

Bathrooms are clean. Tents are bit comfy, pillows were not great. We booked 3 river tents, received 2 river tents and 1 tent at the back. To much visits from the owners, on our alone vacation. However, we could be right next to the river.

Lovely setting with attentive host

After a few days of camping this felt like an oasis. Fixed tents with a comfortable bed (proper mattress, not to firm not to soft). Gert, the owner, was very attentive and helpful. It is the detail that is important - for our children they had children duvet covers, for the adults an adult one... (our kids are 17 & 18 but they didn't know). He also extended our sunset boat ride in the other direction as other guests had seen a hippo that way the previous evening.
The tents are in 2 rows but I preferred the ones overlooking the Kavango - we had lovely breakfasts overlooking the river.
Beware of the meals - they are meat inspired; Gert and his wife were kind enough to halve the steaks for us but that still meant 400g of meat for every individual (I managed...).
Security is excellent - there is CCTV, constant alarm and the owner is armed.
