Trip to the Catlins from the UK

Firstly, the room. Compact but clean and a modern bathroom. Didn't need anything more. Found the bed a bit hard, but that's purely a personal preference (my wife liked it) and not a criticism of the room. Kettle very difficult to fill from the sink tap, but more an inconvenience than anything more serious. Working the TV controls was also a tad tricky. Overall, a fine place to stay.
Secondly, the pub. I really liked this place and reminded me very much of a community UK pub, not the cavernous places I've drunk in elsewhere in NZ. Families, couples, singles, all coming in for drinks and/or food. As for our food, good honest pub meals, just what my wife and I wanted. Found the staff really friendly as well. I would definitely go out of my way to come here again.
Why not a 5? Slight irritations with the room, but it would not stop me from visiting in the future.
Definitely recommended!

Quality at Catlins

This little gem is well worth the visit, the hospitality of the staff here is above and beyond and the meals well I cannot praise them enough. Our Mel was just beautiful and didn’t want to leave any on the plate but such large meals had to leave a little. Their camping grounds are only small but clean and tidy. I would highly recommend

Good Pub Grub

Stayed locally for one night and walked down to the local hotel. Wife went for the schnitzel and I for the roast lamb. The food arrived in good time. The lamb was very good and just the way i like it (just a touch of red). The schnitzel was a bit tough and the breading had little taste. The beer was a bit flat so I switched to a rtd, whilst the wife had g n t. Would go back to try the burger and / or Pizza that looked very good.

Best value accommodation

Stayed 2 nights in the 3 bedroom apartment. Very spacious, very clean and comfortable. Full kitchen with all appliances. Views out to the farmland, covered deck for the smokers. Excellent value. Meals at the bar were excellent. Would definitely stay again.

Don’t eat here!

This was the worst pub meal I have ever had! Nothing was fresh - everything had been frozen and then dumped in a microwave. That was bad enough but some of the vegetables remained frozen, and the 'pan-fried fish' had never seen a pan in its life. It too must have been moved from freezer straight to microwave and then plate.
