Lovely stay in Haputale
We were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our stay with Shar. The accommodation looked basic from the road (he is building a restaurant underneath so there is scaffolding up) but the room was clean, spacious and has a great view of the mountains. Shar’s wife cooked us delicious and reasonably priced meals. Shar took us to Lipton’s seat for sunset in his Tuk-Tuk (a fun little adventure seeing the children meander through tea plantations en route to school/ the tea planation workers heading out for the day/ the AMAZING views from the top/ enjoyable walk down). Shar is more than willing to take you on trips (even at the crack of dawn) for a small fee if you desire and has interesting stories to tell. Thank you for a great stay :)

Kind hosts and a room with a view
The room is spacious and had a great view of Haputale. The hotel is situated on a busy road, so you do have to get used to the noise of traffic and it's not easy to walk to and from the hotel to the city without a tuk tuk. Dinner in the family house is lovely and great value.
The host was incredibly friendly and took us to Liptons Seat at 5 am to see sunrise. He waited for us to walk down to the tea factory and have a tour until 9:30 am and charged us very little for the adventure! We were very happy with our stay in Sa Rest Inn.

small, very basic & expensive
we’re traveling since more than 10 days in Sri Lanka and not in Hotels - just in very easy and basic Guesthouses and we loved till now every place. But this place was a shock, very pricey, right on the road, very small rooms, bed duvets are not very comfortable and so on. well it’s not that it’s unbelievably bad, it’s just not what the reviews are telling...and too expensive!

Great find in Haputale
We loved our stay here! We were pleasantly surprised by the size, comfort and cleanliness of the room and bathroom, especially for the cost. Please bear in mind that this is not a hotel but more like an inn or homestay run by a family. Their house is separate from the rooms, so it is private. The building is also quite new and modern. Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. No AC or fan, but the cooler night air in this region meant it was fine without. WiFi is available but very slow - enough to check train schedules with some patience. We found it nice to unplug for a while in such a beautiful area though :) We also had a nice little balcony to relax on and enjoy the beautiful view. The best part was definitely the welcoming family. The children greeted us when we arrived with tea! We also opted to have dinner here and it was the absolute best meal we had during our time in Sri Lanka. Both my husband and I were amazed by all the different dishes the wife prepared - each one even more delicious than the last! It was also one of the most affordable meals we had during our travels which was a nice bonus. The owner also woke up early to drive us up to Lipton’s Seat at 5am so we could watch the sunrise, and his wife prepared us a tasty packed breakfast so we could enjoy it up there. Later he also drove us to the trains station. They made our whole trip very easy and relaxing.
The only negatives: it IS literally right on the main road, so there is quite a bit of traffic noise although it does quiet down significantly at night. Maybe, if you are a light sleeper bring earplugs. However, the beautiful view over the valley and tea plantations more than makes up for the noise, and we loved enjoying the view with tea on the balcony. Due to it being right on the main road we did not feel very comfortable walking (no shoulder to protect you from traffic!) but not really an issue as the owner can drive you anywhere in his tuktuk. Slight communication problems with the family as they are not completely fluent in English, but main points and organizing rides etc got across fine.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and found it great value for the cost! Would go back.

sehr charmant
ein wunderbarer aufenthalt.grosses zimmer mit balkon und fantastischer aussicht aufs tal.vorzügliche kochkünste zu ganz kleinem preis,was vor allem passt da man im ort nicht wirklich essen gehen kann.man kann alle touren mit dem tuktuk des inhabers durchführen und er fuhr mich sogar nach ella zur nächsten unterkunft.
tagsüber hört man etwas den verkehr von der strasse,aber die fenster schliessen sehr gut und man kann gut schlafen.
