A Wonderful Stay in the Heart of Nature
I really, really enjoyed our stay at Crystal Riverston Deck.
Everyone we met here was genuinely warm and kind. The property felt comfortable, clean, and welcoming. The rooms are large, bright, clean, and extremely comfortable. After spending the days exploring the surrounding nature areas, I slept incredibly well every night. And the views! Waking up to the mountains and then relaxing by the pool was exactly what I needed after a day of hiking.
We spent time exploring the nearby Knuckles Mountain Range and Mini World's End, and the location is a big part of what makes this hotel special. Knuckles is not just beautiful, it is an extraordinarily important natural area, with remarkable biodiversity, endemic species, forests, mountain ecosystems, and watersheds. It is part of Sri Lanka's Central Highlands UNESCO World Heritage property. Mini World's End at Pitawala Pathana also offers beautiful views across the surrounding valleys and mountains.
After our hikes, we would come back and sit on the patio with a cup of tea, looking out at the mountains and writing in our journals. These simple moments ended up being some of my favorite memories of the trip.
The food was delicious and plentiful, with lots of wonderful Sri Lankan curries, local dishes, and fresh fruit juices. I also appreciated that everyone was so attentive and would ask if there was anything additional we needed.
When we arrived, there were small groups of travelers from the US, Australia, and India, which I thought was wonderful. There was this interesting little international community of people who had all come to this relatively quiet corner of Sri Lanka because of the incredible natural environment. It really says something about the draw of the Knuckles region.
I plan to return to the Knuckles next year, and I will absolutely come back to Crystal Riverston Deck. It felt like the perfect base for experiencing this extraordinary part of Sri Lanka.

Great place for nature lovers
In the beginning of January 2026 we spend 2 days at Crystal Riverston Deck. After travelling now for 5 weeks in Sri Lanka I must say that this hotel was surely one of the very best accommodation we had with an excellent price-performance ratio. Everything did fit: the location, the room, the service & the food. We had a very spacy family room with a huge window allowing a stunning view at Mt. Maningala. The location of the hotel is carefully chosen. It gets sun all over the day which gives the pool an unexpected pleasant temperature. Also the food is nice. Ask for Sri Lankan food like fish curry with string hoppers & dhal curry. You will like it. On top - its a paradise for nature lovers. If you like birds & reptiles then this is your place. Just 10 minutes to Pitawala Pathana with its famous Mini Worlds End view. 20 minutes to the beautiful Sera Ella Waterfall. 20 minutes to the Riverston Transmission Tower wth great opertunities for hiking. If you have a special interest for reptiles then get in contact with Ajith - the very helpful manager of the hotel - and ask him for the local guide Nihal. He can show you snakes and the rare rhino lizard.

Breathtaking Views and Refreshing Winds at Crystal Riverston Deck
We stayed at Crystal Riverston Deck Hotel for two nights. It’s a beautiful place with a stunning landscape, surrounded by the Knuckles Mountain Range. The view is just amazing and so peaceful — perfect for anyone who loves nature.
One of the most special things about the hotel is that it’s located in a natural wind tunnel, so you can feel the strong, fresh breeze almost all the time. It really adds to the experience and makes the stay more unique.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. They looked after every little need and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. You can really feel their genuine hospitality.
The place was super clean and neat, which we really appreciated. Rooms and common areas were well maintained.
We also enjoyed the food — everything was tasty and nicely prepared. Overall, it was a relaxing and refreshing stay, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Riverston.
